5k to 60 minutes
What is it and who can join us?
After our 5k Beginners' course we offer a nine-week course to get new runners running for 60 minutes non-stop. It is along the same lines as Couch to 5k, and features timed-based running intervals and walking recoveries. The course is run by our qualified running leaders and UKA coaches who will be with you every step of the way.
Those on the course will be encouraged to run at an 'conversational' pace, and there will be no emphasis on racing or ‘pushing’ to go faster.
We welcome anyone new to running to join the course, and regular runners looking for a social run. If you have been a regular runner and have been off injured for a few weeks we also welcome you to join. As long as you can run comfortably for 30 minutes, you are welcome to take part.
We strongly advise runners to repeat the session one more time during the week, to help maintain fitness. In addition to this, we recommend a third run each week for 20-30 minutes at an easy pace.
How much does the course cost?
It is £10 to take part, which will be deducted from your annual membership if you join Stamford Striders before the end of next March. The course is free to members.
How can I join?
Non-members should register and pay using the button at the top of this page, then send an email to our Beginners Mailbox. We will send emails to communicate any change of location or cancellation of the session, along with what the session will be for that week so you can repeat it.
Members should email to register, or if offering to help support the course.
When and where is it?
Sessions begin on [DATE] and will be held each Wednesday from 6.30pm to about 7.30pm until [END DATE]. They meet at Stamford's Empingham Road playing fields (the same location as our 5k Beginners' course). We encourage participants to walk to sessions as a warm up, but if this is not possible, please park in the car park off Empingham Road from where you should see the meeting point on the field.
Each session will start with a 5-minute walking warm up, followed by 5 minutes of drills. Each finishes with a 5-minute walking cool down and stretches.
What should I wear and bring?
Please wear high-visibility clothing if possible, and certainly invest in some if some of the session takes place at dusk. Otherwise, we recommend weather-appropriate clothing that you feel comfortable wearing. You may wish to bring something warm to wear during the warm up and cool down.
